If I asked you to think of a tropical honeymoon spot, the chances are the Maldives will probably be the first place that pops into your mind. With its romantic overwater villas, endless glittering sea, peachy sunsets, and some of the best service in the world, it’s hard to beat a honeymoon in the Maldives. No wonder why this honeymoon hotspot tops many of ‘the best Honeymoon destination lists’ year after year.
When it comes to booking your Maldives honeymoon, you will want to carefully plan your vacation so you have the most magical and memorable stay. After all, after the hard work that is involved in planning a wedding, you really want your Maldives honeymoon to be a time when you can just chill and unwind with your loved one in the most idyllic setting possible. But finding your perfect Maldives resort need not be a tricky task when you take into account a few of these booking tips and tricks. Read on how to find out how to plan the perfect Maldives honeymoon in no time.
Plan Your Maldives Honeymoon Early
The first rule is to start planning your Maldives honeymoon as early as possible. Many people prioritise planning their wedding day, and then end up leaving their honeymoon to the last minute. For a hassle-free honeymoon, you’ll want to start planning as soon as you start organising your big day. This is for several reasons, firstly the Maldives are popular vacation destination, particularly during the high season which runs from between November and April. And now thanks to all the information available online, honeymooners and holidaymakers can now easily find out the very best rooms to stay in at any given Maldives resort. Because of this, the best rooms will often get booked up pretty far in advance. You can save yourself the stress of having to pick your second choice by beginning your search as early as possible.
Set the Date
The next thing is to set your Maldives honeymoon dates. If you like a traditional wedding, you may want to jet-off on your honeymoon adventure either on the evening of your wedding or the day after. But if you can give yourself a little leeway – even just 2 or 3 days either side – then you will often be able to get better rates on both your flights and Maldives accommodation options. Flexibility is great if you want to save money on your honeymoon package in the Maldives.
There is also the Maldives low season and high season to take into consideration. While many people do choose to honeymoon straight after their wedding, some leave a gap between the day that they get married and their honeymoon. Some newlyweds may even opt for a shorter ‘mini-moon’ straight after the wedding, and then depart on the main honeymoon up to a year later. If you’re a sun bunny and want to visit when there is the most amount of sunshine a day, then you may want to visit during the high season. Whereas if you don’t mind a little (warm) rain here and there, and you want to get the best deals around, the low season could be for you.

All-inclusive, Half-Board or Room Only?
The next thing you want to think about is whether you want to go all-inclusive, half-board, or room only. Each of these board types offers different benefits, and what you choose to go with will depend on a variety of factors including your budget, as well as your dining preferences.
All-inclusive is an excellent idea for most people, regardless if you’re on a honeymoon or not. Food and drink rates can be incredibly high in Maldives resorts, partially because of the high import taxes that are placed on everything, as well as because of how difficult it is to transport produce to the remote islands.
With an all-inclusive package, you can rest assured that everything is included in your stay, including breakfast, lunch, dinners, snacks and drinks. Another great thing about all-inclusive, is that the resort will often throw in some additional goodies such as massages, destination dining and even a special outing or two. A favorite all-inclusive resort for a honeymoon is Constance Moofushi. This small island offers a laid-back vibe yet with five-star service and out of this world dining facilities. Breakfasts are incredibly generous, while guests also can dine at several a la carte restaurants for dinner. Click here for the best deals at Constance Moofushi.
Next up is half-board, and this is also a great option if you want to have that security of knowing that some of your meals are included, yet it also gives you some freedom to dine in different restaurants on an island if you wish to do so. Half board isn’t as popular option as all-inclusive packages in the Maldives, but some resorts offer it in addition to their all-inclusive packages.
And then there are room-only resorts, some of the most famous Maldives Resorts are room-only. However, these do come with a higher price tag, so make sure your honeymoon budget is able to cover your drinks and meals so you’re not left with a big surprise when it comes to check out. If you’re thinking of going for this option, then it’s always wise to have a look at sample menus on the Maldives resort website, so you can get an indication as to drink and meal costs. If you’re thinking of booking room only then you may want to take a look at One and Only Reethi Rah. The celebrity favourite is located on a large palm-fringed island, and it comes with a huge range of activities, as well as some more lively evening events for those who love live music and a sundowner or two. Over Water Villa or Beachside Abode?
The next decision you will have to make is if you want to go for one of those picture-perfect over water villas, or if you prefer to stay on dry land on the beach. Most Maldives resorts offer both options for you to choose from, and, again, there are different benefits for each type of accommodation. Over water villas provide that glamorous, Maldives stay and allow you jump off your decking straight into an azure ocean. However, they are often located quite a walk from the beach along a jetty, so if you want to be steps away from sugary soft sands, then a beach villa may be the best option for you.
Typically, over-water villas also come with a higher price tag than beach villas, although this totally depends on the resort on the size of size of the villa that you choose. If you’re looking for an absolutely spectacular over-the-water Villa, then we highly recommend Soneva Jani. This luxurious and eco-friendly over water residence comes with slides, an infinity pool, a butler as well as a whole other host of amenities that will make your honeymoon extra special. Maldives Honeymoon Packages
Many of the top Maldives resorts will offer special honeymoon packages for newlyweds hoping to enjoy a romantic getaway with some added extras. Honeymoon packages are a great option, as the resort will go above and beyond to make sure you have the very best stay away. On top of that, these special packages can also save you a lot of money. For instance, Maldives resorts will design special packages that include things like champagne on ice in the room on arrival, rose petal lined beds, candlelit dinners on the beach for two, partner spa packages and so on.
Even if you don’t choose to go for a Maldives honeymoon package, you should always call or email your chosen Maldives resort to let them know that you are on your honeymoon. They will often take this into consideration and throwing a few extra freebies and some special treatment regardless if you choose the honeymoon package deal or not.
Booking Flights to Male International Airport
Once you take into consideration the different accommodation types and packages, the next thing to think about is your flights. International flights to the Maldives have got a whole lot cheaper over recent years, partly thanks to a number of low-cost Airlines offering new routes there. For example, you can now fly from Singapore to the Maldives for as little as $100 with the low-cost Airline, Scoot. On top of this, tools such as Skyscanner make it ridiculously easy to scout for the lowest price holidays in the Maldives. If you’re flexible with dates, then you can use their month-long fare finder tool to scout out the lowest flight fares around.
Statistics show that for cheaper flights you will want to depart midweek, and avoid all major celebrations and holiday getaway times. You may even want to look into a stop-over along the way to reduce costs even further or even make your honeymoon into a multi-stop destination. For example, you could take a break and soak up the city life in Dubai before jetting off to your island paradise.
How to Get to Your Maldives Resort
Once you arrange your flights, you will also need to plan how you are going to get from the international airport to your Maldives resort. There are several ways that you can do this, and the type best suited for your needs will depend both on the resort you book, as well as your flight arrival time.
One of the most popular ways to get many Maldives resorts is by a seaplane transfer. This is the most enjoyable way too, as you get to witness stunning birds-eye views of many deserted islands on the way. A downside to this is that seaplane flights typically don’t depart after 3 p.m. in the afternoon, so if your flight arrives late you may need to stay for a night on the main island. Another way to get to your resort is by speedboat which still provides a nice way to travel there, and it’s often more economical than a seaplane flight. Some of the resorts you can get to by taking a local flight to a nearby Island, and then hop on a speedboat. Your Maldives Resort concierge will be able to arrange all of your transfers for you. If you have the choice, we do recommend going for the seaplane option as it adds to the whole experience. And if your budget allows, you can even choose to hire a private seaplane to get you there.
